MARKETING – GETTING THE BASICS RIGHT
As Co-Director and Social Media Strategist of Chatterbox Marketing, Matt Jones has over 15 years working in a variety of roles within the Victorian Tourism industry and has developed an excellent understanding of tourist attractions, local, state and national government, regional tourism boards and small businesses.
He has a very strong attractions and nature based/adventure tourism background having had a variety of marketing, PR, social media, advertising and business development roles in a number of companies including Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Aquarium, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne & Cranbourne, Werribee Zoo and Grampians Tourism. Through these roles, Matt has built up a very strong relationship with local, interstate and international media and tourism trade.
While working at the Botanic Gardens, Matt also worked closely with Mornington Peninsula Tourism, Destination Phillip Island, the Sydney Melbourne Touring Route and the South East Touring Triangle and through these relationships has developed a strong understanding of attractions and the visitor experience. Matt has also had experience working with individual tourism sectors in the Grampians region including accommodation, food and wine, nature based, golf, business events, cycling and backpacker and youth.
Matt was a Mentor for the 2013 – 2015 Victorian Tourism Awards and was a Project Manager for the 2012 Victorian Tourism Awards. He has also held Director positions on a number of local, state and national tourism boards including ATEC, Surf Coast Tourism and Tourism Alliance Victoria and has been rewarded for his strong commitment to the tourism industry in winning the 2008 Lynette Bergin Award by Tourism Alliance Victoria, 2011 ATEC Len Taylor award for excellence and the 2012 Young Achiever Award at the Victorian Tourism Awards.
