Critical information for businesses

Dear all,
Following up from our email yesterday, please see below more information pertaining to the coronavirus.  The message below is from VTIC, the state’s tourism industry council.  They are the key tourism advocacy and support body for Victorian tourism businesses.  I was on a conference call with the VTIC CEO and other Tourism Boards this afternoon.
We will continue to provide you with information as it becomes available.  The situation is unfolding quite rapidly so the frequency of my communication will increase as I pass on pertinent information.  One of the key discussion points in the VTIC telecon today was ‘unpacking’ the stimulus package that the federal government has allocated to support of the tourism industry.  The bare bones of where the fund will be allocated has been outlined, but details are, understandably, scant.  We are next meeting on Wednesday to discuss this.
In the meantime, several of you have called me asking if there is a government policy on how to approach different scenarios, the key ones being ‘I have dozens/hundreds of people coming this weekend, should I stay open?’ and ‘how do I manage staffing cutbacks if that need eventuates?’.  The latter question is partially addressed below, but this is an ever-changing situation.  The former; my advice is that if you can and want to stay open, you should.  Take all reasonable measures to ensure that your staff are protected, with strict sanitation measures, and of course, your customers.
Our region is particularly busy at the moment so a sensible approach to remaining open is the way to go in my view.  It is worth noting that as of today, and for the weekend at least, the Visitor Info Centres in the Macedon Ranges Shire will be closed to look after their staff and volunteers.  And you will have heard that sadly Booktown has been cancelled this year.  Bear with us during these uncertain times.  I’ll keep you posted along the way.  In the meantime you can call me any time on 0419 574 813.
