We need you: workforce survey (10 minutes, tops)

What a busy Easter weekend. I hope you all managed to make hay while the sun shined given the many staffing challenges we have. There was no shortage of visitors and the weather was sublime.

A colleague of mine made the point to thank a receptionist at a major regional hotel after, the hotel had experienced three days of near impossible staffing issues (followed by the inevitable tirade of complaints from guests who expected things to be the way they were before Covid). She burst into tears saying that it’s near impossible to meet the needs of guests with new staff still learning and experienced staff away. I’m sure this story strikes a nerve with many of you. I spent Easter in another part of Victoria and the staffing issues were just as bad there…if not worse.

As an industry, we need to be talking about these challenges more so we can advocate for solutions. Thanks to those that have already filled in our Industry Workforce Survey. If you haven’t done yet, I understand you have been smashed and busier than usual. If you could spare 10 minutes to complete, your feedback will help us address this important issue with some useful data we can peddle to the powers that be to help solve this critical issue.

You can fill in the survey here.

DMT Conference

Wow, it’ll be here before we know it! I’ve emailed the program last week – you can see it here if you missed it.

Noting the subject above, I appreciate that everyone is absolutely flat out, but we have managed to secure some of Australia’s best presenters and experts, so I really encourage you to find the time to come if you can. In a previous email I talked about Lauren Burns AM, this time I want to talk about Simon Kuestenmacher. Simon set up The Demographics Group with Bernard Salt (you know, the smashed avo guy) and is a brilliant speaker. We saw him speak at another conference and just had to get him to ours.

Simon will talk about broad macro data that is relevant to all of us like consumer trends, but also take a deep dive into our region and cut up and analyse data specific to our region. If you want to understand what visitors will look like, what they want, and probably what they eat for breakfast (smashed avo?) then you have to come along. I had a Zoom meeting with Simon to talk about his presentation and he’s a really amazing and interesting guy.

Don’t miss it! You can book tickets here.

Cheers, look forward to seeing you.
