Dear all,

The 2026 Commonwealth Games presented our region with a once-in-a-generation opportunity.

We were looking forward to welcoming many thousands of high-yield visitors before, during, and after the games. We were going to benefit from an unprecedented level of national and international awareness. And we were relishing the infrastructure opportunities that came with the Games’ investment.

The cancellation of the Games was a real blow to our region. As a successful tourism destination, nestled between two key hubs, we were set to be one of the main beneficiaries of the visitation and spend that the Games promised. But all is not lost: The State Government has promised funding for marketing, industry, and tourism infrastructure to offset the ‘opportunity cost’ of the cancellation.

It’s our job now to ensure that we get the right amount of funding, in the right places. One area I’m particularly interested in is the impact on you, our industry. Quantifying the losses and costs to you will assist in my bid for supplemental funding, so we have whipped up a quick survey to estimate the impact.

It’ll take no more than five minutes, so I urge you to complete the survey.

Thanks,
Steve
